But sometimes they keep us where we don’t belong,

Of a nation that’s always been bursting apart at the seams,
Spilling its kids everywhere.

There’s a shiver in the sky where the wild geese still fly,
There’s truth and there’s lies and there’s pain and surprises and all,
And it’s easy to get stuck here.

And the art of losing’s not as hard as we thought,
And a day marred with loneliness is easily fixed and forgot,
It’s so easy to get stuck here.

So you silence the voices,
Their accents more foreign with each passing year,
Occasionally visiting shadows will marvel at all that you’ve done,

I sit mixing my thoughts,
And throwing cold water on pie-eyed ideas,
I don’t think my giant of a Grandfather ever left Dublin or was ever abroad,
Maybe he was just stuck there.

And the irony is it was hunger that drove so many to roam,

To survive without love,
Our mannerisms change but our attitudes remain,
The years become a soft blend of acquaintances and friends we can trust,
